Youth groups are one of the best ways for your child to get to know other like-minded members of the church in an age-appropriate setting. There are a number of other reasons why attending youth group is a good idea, and in today’s post, we’ll explore just a few of them.
Faith Lutheran Church offers a variety of youth ministry opportunities that can help your child grow closer to God and gain a deeper understanding of the Bible. If you’d like to learn more about any of our great youth group opportunities, then give us a call at 760-244-5943 or come by the church this weekend for a Sunday service. We hope to see you soon!
The Benefits of Youth Group
Finding age-appropriate places to hang out can be tough for teens and young adults. Many young members of the community end up going to parties or becoming mixed in with the wrong crowd simply because they don’t have anywhere else to go, and youth groups provide a wholesome alternative. Instead of wandering the mall or going somewhere they shouldn’t, your child can attend youth group and fill their free time with meaningful activities. At Faith Lutheran, we have lock-ins, go on trips to theme parks and other fun locations, and find meaningful volunteer opportunities that can help our youth develop a sense of belonging in the broader community. We’re always finding new ways to get young members of the church involved, so be sure to ask a staff member about upcoming events!
Questions and Answers
As your child grows and becomes more immersed in academic life and meets new people, they may experience difficult encounters in which they are asked hard questions about their faith that they haven’t previously considered. Instead of letting difficult questions undermine their faith or push them toward skepticism, youth group provides your child with an outlet in which they can discuss difficult questions with an experienced and knowledgeable member of the church. It’s highly likely that other members of the group will have similar thoughts and experiences as they make their way through school and enter college, and having a firm, faith-based foundation with which they can defend their faith is vital.
Sense of Identity
Teens and young adults often struggle to find a sense of identity during their formative years. Your child has probably gone through phases or picked up trends that come and go, and youth group can provide them with the support and structure they need to discover who they really are. Your child will be able to explore the challenges and obstacles that come with being a youth in today’s society with other like-minded individuals, which can help them find and maintain a strong, faith-based identity as they grow older.
One of the best aspects of youth group is that it leads to lasting friendships. Your child will get to know other members of the church through events and ice-breaking games, and many of these relationships can turn out to last a lifetime. We know that it can be difficult for young adults in today’s society to find like-minded individuals who are interested in growing their relationship with God, but youth group makes it easy for your child to fill their life with supportive friends!
Growth and Leadership Opportunities
One of the best aspects of youth group is that it trains your child to take on extra responsibilities and become more involved in the church. For those who decide to remain in their hometown after high school or college, advancing in the church and taking on new responsibilities is a natural progression. They will have seen how their leaders interact with and support the group, and they can emulate those positive qualities when they become old enough to enter a leadership role. Should they choose to move to a different location and attend a different church, they will be familiar with what it takes to operate and support members of a youth group. No matter where your child ends up, they will have the skills they need to find and become a member of a supportive church.
